Adams hopeful of Hibs cup upset

By BBC Sport
Friday, 12th March 2010
Adams hopeful of Hibs cup upset.

Ross County break new ground twice on Saturday when they take on Hibs at Easter Road in the quarter-finals of the Active Nation Scottish Cup.It will be the first time the Dingwall side have met Hibs in a competitive game and marks their debut appearance in the last eight of the tournament.

"We're looking forward to it," manager Derek Adams told BBC Scotland.

"We'll go there and try and win the game and try to progress to the semi-final at Hampden."

Hibs will well be wary of the Highland side who surprised many by disposing of Premier League opponents Hamilton 2-1 in the League Cup in Dingwall.

Ross County manager Derek Adams

Manager Derek Adams, who has consistently denied that they are contenders for SPL status, is acutely aware that his side has now reached a very high level in two competitions as they enter untried territory in the cup.

"It gives us an opportunity again this season to play against a Premier League club," said Adams.

"We've already played against Hamilton and Dundee United in the League Cup and for the first time in our history have got to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

"Then we play Caley in the league next week, so it's very tough games for us but I don't think it'll be a distraction."

County served notice of intent in the last round by destroying Stirling Albion to the tune of 9-0, with player of the round Gary Wood scoring a hat trick.

The Dingwall side have also already proved to be a surprise packet on more than one occasion this season and will be keen to do so again, with the prospect of a trip to Hampden in the semi-final the prize.
