Ross County chairman Dave Siegel is to step down at the end of the month after a memorable year in the post."I've had a wonderful time. I wouldn't have missed the ride for anything, it's been terrific," he told BBC Scotland.

"But the demands on a chairman are very high. We played 50 games this season and there's a lot of work behind the scenes, which was very time consuming.

"It was eating into my own business time and into my personal time, good quality family time."

County were challenging for the Division One title until the last few weeks of the campaign and caused a major upset by reaching the Scottish Cup final.

The side from Dingwall were well beaten by Dundee United but captured the headlines with victories over Hibernian and Celtic en route to Hampden.

"I couldn't have picked a better season if I'd tried," added Siegal. "Twice to Hampden, once to claim the scalp of Celtic, which was an amazing day, and the cup final itself, which was a fantastic occasion.

"Although we didn't win the cup, I think we won the hearts and minds of everybody in the Highlands and Scotland and probably beyond."

County's bid for promotion fizzled out amid a frantic backlog of fixtures and preparation for the cup final but Seigel is confident manager Derek Adams can improve on this term's fifth-placed finish.

"On the playing side, I think Derek and myself have had an excellent relationship," he continued. "We've put the building blocks in place, we've got the players signed on two-year deals.

"He certainly has all the tools in place to push on and have a go at getting up to the SPL."
